Papers, 1961-1964. Included here are correspondence (copies) to Michigan Senator Porter from former Michigan governors Wilber M. Brucker and G. Mennen Williams, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Harry F. Kelly, and others, concerning building a new governor's mansion in Lansing, March 27-May 5, 1964. Also included are meeting minutes of the Special Joint Interim Committee to make a preliminary study to determine the plans and procedures for constructing and furnishing an executive residence at the seat of government, July 28, 1964. There is a report of the study on the advisability and feasibility of constructing a new mansion for Georgia's governors, 1961 (copy). A brief biographical sketch of Porter is also included (2 p., copy), 1964.

Porter was born Aug. 16, 1888. He married Jennie L. King, and together they had five children. A farmer by occupation, Porter was elected to the Michigan State Senate in 1936, serving from 1936 through 1964. (Information from the Michigan manual, 1964.)
